We are always in need of new foster homes. If you are interested in working with us, please email us.
When you foster an animal you provide it a loving home before it is adopted to its forever home. We provide some financial support to cover food and other costs. Since our fosters know the animal the best, they are an integral part of the adoption process and will help us determine which adopter will be the best fit. All of the animals will have been fully vetted before being fostered. There are two style of fostering:
Short term fostering for adoptable cats With this style of fostering you will be entrusted with the care of cats that are already perfect and suitable for adoption. Keeping this in mind, if you foster a cat that can be adopted you will need to bring to PETCO so it can be shown to potential adopters. You will need to make a commitment to bring the cat twice a week (Wednesdays and Sundays from 3-6pm) to our showings. The amount of time you keep the cat will vary, but most cats are adopted within a month. When you come meet us we will decide on a cat that fits your lifestyle. For example, kittens need to be in a home that can provide constant care and attention. You do not need much experience to foster these cats, we will provide all the guidance you need.
Long term fostering for cats who need work Some rescued cats are not perfect for adoption, but they are not feral and do not need to be returned to their colony. Most of these cats are simply scared of humans and have been mistreated by them in the past. They just need some TLC to come around. With this style of fostering, we prefer experienced cat owners who understand cat behavior and are willing to be patient enough to work with them to make them loving pets. While you are working with the animal you will not need to bring it in for showings. Once the cat becomes a trusting cat we will being showing it for adoptions.
We are available 24/7 for any questions or problems that arise.
